What Price, Freedom Of Speech?

flag2.jpg

Well, we'll tell you: somewhere between $122,000 to $123,000. That's how much KVUE news is reporting the city of Austin spent during the KKK's little visit to City Hall before the vote in November. You remember that, don't you? Something about gay people and marriage and bigotry...Anyway, if the city paid it, that means YOU paid it. Doesn't that make you feel warm and fuzzy inside?

Most of that cost was for overtime for the whopping 200-250 Austin police officers patroling the area. The rest was for all the equipment, like "helicopters, boats, water, food and barricades." Boats?

Officials say they spent all the money to prevent riots, but from what we heard, protestors were kept waaaaay far away from the, uh, "Pro-Family" Klansmen. Klanspeople? We're trying to be PC here. Now, the KKK has every right under the good ol' constitution to express themselves, but $120,000 for free speech? Apparently, that shit ain't so free.

  • .... Maybe at least one of those officers had some doubts.

That is a lot of taxpayer dollars. As much as I totally despise the KKK, the city would have to pay the same for any radical group that came in -- on the left or right of the political spectrum.

    I guess Team America's right: "Freedom isn't free...No, there's a hefty fuckin' fee"
