Tonight at 8:30 Sharp: Sharp

We stumbled upon the work of Sarah Sharp through a coworker, and initially thought nothing of it. In our defense, people recommend flash-in-the-pan bands to us all the time, so we rarely put much stock in any real listening quality. Myspace has ushered in an unprecedented wave of half-practiced hopefuls who just met each other through Craigslist three weeks prior, yet somehow already have an album out. The time and effort put into that album is easily seen in the quality of the product.
But then there are artists like Sarah Sharp. We enjoy anyone who can blend elements of classic vocal jazz with modern production sensibilities. She tells her stories well, and has the kind of voice that you want to have a pillow made from. So soothing. We believe it fair to compare her to Aimee Mann (Magnolia soundtrack), if that helps anyone imagine her sound.
In other words, if you enjoy spending time bathed in billowy lyrics and easy-tempo rhythms, then Sarah is for you. If you prefer to set shit on fire and taste the combination of sweat and your own blood, then wait for Death From Above 1979 to come to town (you never know). They’d wreck shit for sure.
Check her out tonight, before she heads out for a month and a half tour around Europe.
