Because That Fight Club Poster is So 1999

We hate to say it, but we're not normally the type to invest in artwork. Sure, we support the arts. We can talk the talk. We can throw around words like "modernist" and "Suprematist." But, when push comes to shove, sinking several hundred dollars into a painting that may or may not be worth the wall space it occupies in a few years isn't the kind of gamble we like to take.
That being said, we're a bit excited about the Arthouse 5X7 Holiday Art Sale, which offers original works by established and emerging artists with ties to the Lone Star State for a slick $100. "Vintage" works ("vintage" appears to be code for "works left over from previous years") go for a piddling $50. And, as though that wasn't enough of a bargain bin price, Arthouse members get a 20% discount.
If nothing else, 5X7 presents an excellent opportunity to put something classy on your walls -- not that the Tibetan prayer flags and Monet prints aren't classy.
Anyhow, the sale kicks off this Saturday, Dec. 3 and runs through Dec. 31 at Arthouse at the Jones Center, 700 Congress Ave. For further details, check the Arthouse calendar. Proceeds from the event go toward Arthouse exhibitions and educational programs.
