Mendoza Line - Full of Light and Full of Fire (Misra)
New York City's Mendoza Line are an awfully bitter bunch. Then again, these days, we can't rightfully blame them for feeling that way. Their latest release on Austin's Misra Records, Full of Light and Full of Fire, finds the band fixated on themes of betrayal, regret, and political dissidence. The last bit is probably the most telling of the band's focus: having been around for close to a decade, the former Athens, GA alt-country rockers have witnessed our country's ludicrous downward spiral of self-destruction, self-deception and, consequently, self-loathing. And yet there remains a certain exuberant quality in many of the album's tracks, which makes this record not only sociopolitically relevant but eminently enjoyable. And that's something we think more bands should aspire to.
