Put Down That Cigarette: It's the Great American Smokeout

smokebum.jpg

Let's just cut to the chase: everyone knows that smoking kills. Then again, so do stress, vodka, charcoal and high fructose corn syrup. But this isn't a public service board, nor do we care to proselytize - we'd just like to point out that today is the American Cancer Society's Great American Smokeout. And unlike the other Great American Smokeout a few months from now, this one's designed to do your body a bit of good. Considering quitting? Care to plan a whole day around it? We're quite happy with our Nat Shermans, thanks, but we do realize just what a world of hurt we're getting ourselves into. And just for today, we're willing to put down the pack and take a break. If you don't believe you can do it, check out a few statistics on smoking courtesy the Detroit Free Press.

  • Another good reason to quit: cigarette filters are made of plastic, not cotton, and are the most littered thing in the world. They often end up in our water systems and can take over 10 years to break down, so next time you finish your cigarette, find an ashtray! Or just quit smoking! :D
