Weekend Parties: Erotic City, Rock the Casbah, AMODA, Stitch, Car Stereo Wars
· The Lord Imperial and The Young Adorable - aka DJ Starsign and John Angle - kick off the first ever Erotic City party at Nasty's on Saturday night. Dressed in silly disguises (Panda vs. Biker, and more), the diabolical deck dilettantes are spinning a night of electro-house, rock, new wave, funky disco, and hip hop, a la James Murphy (LCD Soundsystem), Larry Levan, Daft Punk, Metro Area, Can, P-Funk and - that's right - Prince. Erotic City promises a sound with a "decidedly dance element, but from an outsider point of view where The Rolling Stones, 2 Live Crew, Blondie, Cassius, Chicken Lips, Kraftwerk, Chaka Khan and LCD Soundsystem exist in the same deejay set." ($3, 21+, 10pm)
· We'll be over at the Parish Room, where DJ Mel and the Boom Chika Boom go-go girls are hosting Rock The Casbah 21. Glam eighties garb is almost a must - we still have no idea what we're gonna wear, so we welcome suggestions from you craftier types - and we recommend that you hydrate beforehand. Show up early to get your hand stamped, lest you be turned away later in the evening: the house invariably fills to capacity before midnight. ($7, 9pm)
· For something more low-key, head over to Copa Bar for the AMODA Digital Showcase with art by Benjamin Stottlemyer, Dave Berezin, Rob Chiu, Tyler Coburn, Kris Moyes, Gregori Saavedra, and Super!Alright! accompanied by sets featuring Luken (Kupei Musika, Ideal), officerfishdumplings (Notenuf), hyperbubble (Socket Sounds, Uncle Buzz), Andreas Tilliander (Mille Plateaux, Resopal, Pluxemburg), and Majora y Minora (Frescher-Southern) ($8, 9pm)
· On Sunday night, Emo's is going to be packed with hundreds of Austin's hippest, all vying to get their clammy hands on the latest locally-designed fashions. Check out sets by Belaire, DJ Mel, DJ Jennifer (Ear Candy), Bigface, Prince Klassen & DJ Mehalani Soul. And with 70 craft fair vendors and something like 20 runway designers, you're almost guaranteed to find something fabulous that no one else in town will have - the full list of participants is here. They're expecting the show to sell out, so you might consider getting a ticket online. ($8, 7pm)
· And there's also the weekend-capping dance party Car Stereo (Wars) at Plush
