Austinist Artist Profile: Sound Team @ Emo's, This Saturday

soundteam_group.jpg

Austin's own Sound Team was one of the best acts we caught at ACL this year - despite the blistering temperature and sporadic dust tornadoes, they played an unceasingly energetic set that made us (nearly) forget about our impending heat strokes. Live, theirs is synth-happy dancerock constructed from the supple layering of their dual keyboard/guitars, toe-tappingly catchy drum beats, and Matt O.'s big, blaring vocals. Their studio work is something you'll have to experience for yourself -- check out the downloads below.

soundteam_group2.jpg Back at CMJ in September, the guys were asked by Win Butler himself to play before The Arcade Fire - the same show where David Bowie stepped onstage - and by most accounts, dazzled the New York audience. They've recently signed with Capitol Records, and are expecting to release their full-length album sometime in the early spring of 2006.

Sound Team records out of their self-made analog studio, Big Orange, which was converted from an abandoned record-pressing plant here in Austin. Their newest EP, WORK, debuts this Saturday at their Emo's release party. Immediately afterwards, the boys head out for a three-week tour of the East Coast. Check 'em out now, before they're lost to us forever.

Also, for tomorrow's show, Sound Team and South 1st Street record purveyor End of an Ear are running a special contest:

Participants enter the giveaway at the store. Prizes are 4 pairs of tickets + a CD copy of the EP, WORK. One "grand" prize of a pair of tickets + a Sount Team t-shirt + a copy of the EP on 180-gram, orange vinyl. Any purchase in the store is accompanied by a ST button.
