Will There Ever Be a Rainbow?

unicorn.jpg

Tomorrow (Saturday), Bolm Studio's Michael Schliefke and Blue Genie Art's Head Sculptor Ian Shults are hosting "the biggest Unicorn event Austin has ever seen!" And judging from the bold capitalization of those fabled paragons of virginity, we're expecting this is going to Blow Us Away.

They're expanding the show beyond Bolm Studios' normal gallery space to include the original gallery bay, so that all of the art being exhibited has plenty of space to be gawked at. What's even cooler, they're taking the entire outdoor area and transforming it into a "unicorn friendly environment, complete with a rainbow of balloons cascading over the chain link fence outside the studios." The wording of this press release suggests that there may in fact be real live unicorns present at the gallery reception. Or, at the very least, we're hoping to see several horses with plastic horns convincingly epoxied to their foreheads.

More of their press release:

The show, put together by and Ian Shults, the Head Sculptor at Blue Genie Art, will open with a rousing reception that will take place in the late afternoon and into the night on Saturday, November 5th.  The festive opening will have magical food and music that will provide the ultimate setting for an event celebrating the unicorn in art.  An awards ceremony for participating artists takes place at 9:00pm.  During the awards, a King/Queen of the Unicorn will be knighted after tabulating votes from the people attending the show.

Among the fifty talented artists exhibiting their works are Ethan Azarian (who recently released his second solo album, which we reviewed last month), Tina Sparkle (of Austin Craft Mafia), and our good friend, fellow Francophile and occasional informant, Shannon Roberts.

The show kicks off at 4pm, wherein you can start your People's Choice Award voting.
