This Week's New Movie Releases

We’re having a hard time coming up with sufficient snark for each of the new movie releases today. Could our health be failing us? After all, too much snark is like red meat: delicious, but ultimately bad for you. Besides, some of these flicks actually look good! And whoa, check it out – we’ve even reviewed a few already! It’s like we’re doing our job, or something.

*Jarhead Austinist review
A movie not so much about the gruesomeness of war, but rather the boredom and disillusionment many soldiers experience. We don’t generally go for war movies, but we do go for Jake Gyllenhaal and Peter Sarsgaard. Rawr.

*Chicken Little
We swear we’ve been seeing previews for this movie for the past two years, and now it’s finally out. The delay could be due to troubles at Disney. It looks cute, but can the corporate giant survive without Pixar? A lot is riding on this little chicken.

Keane
No, this isn’t a documentary about the band, as that would probably render viewers comatose. It’s about a mentally disturbed man whose daughter is abducted. Wheeee!

*Shopgirl Austinist review
Critics are claiming this is Steve Martin’s best performance yet. We’re keen on Jason Schwartzman, but Claire Danes will forever be Angela Chase to us.

*The Squid and the Whale Austinist review
Look for this one at Oscar time.

National Lampoon’s Adam & Eve
Wait, wait, let’s get this straight. She’s a hot college chick AND she’s still a virgin?? Psh, yeah right! That’s biologically impossible! What is this movie, science fiction?

*Austinist recommends. We also recommend these first runs: Capote, The Constant Gardener, Good Night, and Good Luck, In Her Shoes, Proof, Serenity, The Corpse Bride
