Some of us didn't get to as many movies at this year's Austin Film Festival as we would have liked, because we got busy and we were tired and, we admit, a little bit too lazy to drive downtown. And some of us missed some screenings because of baseball mania (you know who you are). Nevertheless, the last couple of nights of AFF 2005 are upon us and there are still cool and interesting movies to see. First, Manderlay, Lars Von Trier's sequel to the highly controversial and divisive (but we say masterpiece), Dogville, with Bryce Dallas Howard (yes, Opie's daughter) taking over the role of Grace from Nicole Kidman.
Thursday night brings us The Squid and the Whale, and to this we say YIPEEE! We loved Noah Baumbach's first feature, Kicking and Screaming, for it's offbeat and funny-cuz-it's-true portrait of a group of friends who can't quite seem to move on from their college "glory" days.
Manderlay screens at the Parmount on Wednesday, October 26th at 9:15pm. The Squid and the Whale is also at the Paramount on Thursday, October 27th at 7:30pm.

Wait to go see Squid and Whale til it comes out in theaters, which will be soon. Go see Runaway on Thurs. at 9pm at the Arbor instead. It was the Narrative Feature winner and for good reason. It is an amazing, smart, riveting, thought-provoking film that's not to be missed.
