American Analog Set: Ya Splitting, Or What?

amanset.jpg

Earlier this week, Pitchfork reported that American Analog Set, Austin's perennial indie-psychedelic band, was breaking up after their current tour. Frontman Andrew Kenny remarked the following:

"We're still friends and we still like making music together but we've all got other projects that we'd like to concentrate on for a while."

Which made us sad, because we finally got around to seeing them play live for the first time at their free Club de Ville show a few weeks ago. But, lo and behold, today Pitchfork annulled their prior announcement, declaring that AmAnSet are in fact not breaking up ... for good:

"Is this the end of the American Analog Set?"

No ... probably not. We're still friends and we still like making music together, but we've all got other projects that we'd like to concentrate on for a while. Sean's book comes out in early 2006. Lee has been busy with Parts & Labour in Austin. Craig has his own music and more design work than he can do right now. Kenny is working on songs for a new project and also putting songs together for the next AmAnSet singles/unreleased compilation. Mark has a grip of cigarettes to smoke and FIFA 2006 just came out for PS2 so...

Parts & Labour? We know where that is! Austinist loves it when out-of-town publications reference local shops that we love.

Whether they do or don't end up calling it quits, you can catch American Analog Set when they return to town on December 11th at The Parish Room.
