Austin prides itself on being locally-focused, and on Friday, you can get an entire dose of locality while benefiting a very worthy, local cause. Two local artists, Coy Poage and William K. Stidham , are holding an art exhibit, "Let the Beauty we Love be What we Do," to benefit the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition of Austin (NOCC), and they've got some sweet sponsors to back them up: Pilsner Urquell, Hog Island Deli, Vivo Cocina Mexicana, and our personal favorite, Tito's Handmade Vodka, made right here in Austin. The Cash Cooper Band will provide music.
"I wanted to have a fun art exhibit that shows Austin talent, and because Austin is loaded with wonderful, talented people, it wasn't hard making this event special. We picked the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition of Austin because we wanted to benefit a local charity, and we have a friend who was diagnosed with ovarian cancer who is involved with NOCC. We want people to come and have a good time and also be able to raise awareness about ovarian cancer," Poage said.
The exhibit is at Barocca Studios, 1623 S. Lamar (half a mile south of Oltorf) from 7 p.m. - 10 p.m. There's a $15 donation at the door, and beverages and food will be provided.
So, if you're tired of the same old same old every weekend, check out a local event, get yourself some local artwork and some local booze, and dance to some local music.
