Austin Stands Down

homeless.jpg

This post is by one of our new writers, Elizabeth...

Next Saturday, Sunday, October 22, Austin will hold its annual Stand Down to help the homeless. Stand Down was created by the VA as a way to help homeless veterans, but a lot of programs (such as Austin's), have opened it to homeless non-veterans also. During the day, assistance with clothing, haircuts, health care and legal aid is available. Even care for pets is offered!

If you are interested in donating funds, time or materials, go here for more information. If you want to volunteer, applications are due tomorrow. We're doing our part to show our town does care about the welfare of our homeless, and that we're not all meanies as far as our homeless friends are concerned.

Stand Down
Saturday, Oct. 22, 8am - 3pm
Cantu Pan American Recreation Center
2100 East 3rd Street
Austin, TX 78702
