BOX: Launch Party @ Factory People

box.jpg

There have been a lot of new Austin-centric publications (both printed and online) hitting the scene lately, but we're really intrigued by concept behind box. Self described as "a magazine that blurs the line between smut and culture," box is a "combination of erotic photography, irreverent articles, and other chewy morsels aiming to inform and titillate."

Sounds good to us!

From their initial press release:

box hopes to challenge the schizophrenic nature of our current sexual climate. It’s okay to have sex and it’s okay to talk about it over dinner, yet a bared breast at the SuperBowl demands a congressional hearing. Preteen pop-stars and fortyyear old singles have killed taboo, but modern pornography hasn’t caught up. Carrie Bradshaw can talk about a queef and it’s cute, but when another skinny blonde queefs on tape it’s filth. You say tomato, I say vagina.

box is celebrating its initial launch tonight by hosting a First Thursday event at Factory People (1325 South Congress), from 6-10pm. After that, the party moves to the Peacock (1515 Pedernales).

  • Hey, just a thanks to all those who made it out-we'll have some party shots up on the box site today or tomorrow.

Pretentious hipsters? non. Pretentious NUDE hipsters? oui oui.

    Randy.

  • Sean, it is official. You are the evil twin.

  • I am going to register www.truecraigslist.org.

Then I am going to write a script that reads austinist rss and filters out truecraig's posts.

This script will then post slightly altered copies of his austinist posts to truecraigslist, but the dates will appear to be one to three weeks in the past.

I'm sure neither of these events will involve pretentioius hipsters.......but I'm there!

  • Arrrraaaggahhh! You got me. Again! You meddling kid!

[I am shaking my fist with furious deploration, but you can't see that over the interweb, but yeh]

    You super-sleuth/CL lurker you!

  • A

There was just a post on CL about east side drunks who had consumed free Jim Beam and had water balloons. Are you sure you didn't see it before writing that comment, truecraig?

  • Awwwwww yeah!

DJ Starsign ( www.starsigndesign.com ) will be spinning up at Peacock tonight (damn good DJ), and word is that there will be FREE Jim Beam between 10 and 11pm! Free booze is nice. Drunks with water balloons are nice too, I suppose.

admittedly, i'm pretty sure the potential homocide was actually a prank involving a drunk guy with a water balloon, but it seemed sketchy at the time and i grew up in australia so i'm kind of sheltered...and the peacock is a pretty, cosy little watering-hole if not a tad noisy and open for my paranoid ass (no place to hide after those awkward encounters)...

  • Justin

Peacock owns! Don't be afraid of the east side.

  • em

i may or may not have seen an attempted murder while parking next to the peacock last weekend.

  • Allen

oh my god that's an awesome press release
