The first annual Fantastic Fest kicks off this week, beginning on Thursday night and running through Sunday. Fantastic Fest is the brainchild of Paul Alvarado-Dykstra and Tim McCanlies, and they have compiled almost two dozen feature films from a dozen countries.

This new festival showcases the latest live-action and animated films in the genres of sci-fi, horror, and fantasy. The lineup includes: previews of Jon Favreau’s Zathura, Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller’s Sin City: Recut and Extended, and Werner Herzog’s The Wild Blue Yonder; work-in-progress screenings of John Gulager’s Feast and Eli Roth’s Hostel; behind-the-scenes peeks at the making of Richard Linklater’s A Scanner Darkly and Andrew Adamson’s The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe. Check out the full schedule here.

All screenings will be at the always fantastic Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar. Badges are still on sale ($125, $180 for VIP), or you can buy tickets for each individual show. A special student discount is available starting today.
