We Need to Chat: "Arrested Development" on tonight!

UPDATE: Tim Goodman, at the San Francisco Chronicle says,"The funniest show on television is all but dead." Come on. How could a show with a character named "Bob Loblaw" (played by the irrepressible Scott Baio) die? !

We were walking on clouds a few months ago, when Fox announced it was renewing "Arrested Development," the funniest show since...ever. Last season, AD was scheduled on Sundays, hoping to net some of the Simpsons audience, but it was to no avail. Instead, it was cut from the usual 22 episodes down to 18. David Cross went on Jimmy Kimmel to inform everyone about the cut-back and proceeded to mock the Fox network. The future of the ground-breaking show looked mighty bleak. But it rose like a phoenix from the ashes. Now you people just need to tune in. From CNN:

And then there's Fox, which is off to a mixed start. New shows such as "Reunion" and "Kitchen Confidential" have not fared too well so far and the season premieres of returning shows "Arrested Development" and "The O.C." put up disappointing ratings, analysts said. Fox has also lowered the ax on a new show already, canceling "Head Cases" last week. That was the first casualty of the season.

So now it's back and as funny as ever. Unfortunately, the ratings don't reflect that. Which really makes us wonder, what did we learn from last season? By "we", we mean you. Watch it! Get your friends to watch it! Make it a priority! Don't let AD become another Fox casualty. Or else no ice cream for your pretty pink mouths!

You know, just watching the show doesn't help the ratings, unless you have a Nielsen meter in your home or you receive a TV diary from Nielsen. In Austin, you'll only receive diaries during sweeps (Feb, May, July and Nov). As for the meter, I'm sure you know whether or not you have a Nielsen meter in your home.

No, you cannot call them and request one.

You should still watch Arrested Development though.

  • AD is definitely appointment television. If you were wondering if there really was an "I'm Oscar" website - there so is.
