Celery Vs. Olives, It's a Bloody Mary Debate

bloody_mary.jpg

We say both, actually. In our perfect Bloody Mary we would get celery and olives. And, hey, why not throw in a pickle as well?

Our best Austin Bloody Mary experience so far has been at Opal Divine's. Their gourmet bloody mary features sun dried tomato infused Finlandia Vokda and is scrumpdillylicious (as a green frog might say). They call it the Sun Dried Divine Mary and we would be happy to get buzzed on it anytime.

Austin, give us the details on who makes your favorite Bloody Mary?

Tim--who used to be a bartender, but is now one of the managers--at Aussie's Volleybar makes the best super-spicy Bloody Mary in the universe. (Actually I prefer a Bloody Maria--vodka and I have issues. Big, fuck off issues to quote Eddie Izzard.) 'Tho Tim is rarely behind the bar these days, he's usually pretty receptive to begging.

Everyone seems to love the bloody mary's at La Cucaracha. Sure it's a dive, but I'm told they are awesome.

At Stubb's gospel brunch, they have a big bloody mary bar with every possible fixin' available so you can make your own. It's a little extra work, but it's fun and you have only yourself to blame if you screw it up. Unforunately, they don't let you pour your own vodka.

I think that Hyde Park Bar and Grill makes a great one as well. Not too spicy but just spicy enough.

Opal Divine's is the best I've found too.

But my favorite ever is a place in Chicago (The North Side on Damen) that serves bloody marys with a skewer of cheese, olives and summer sausage. Kind of an antipasto skewer. Maybe not the best choice for vegetarians, but I love them.
