Local Music is Water-Resistant

As this weekend draws increasingly nearer, we've found ourselves becoming giddy with anticipation over all the awesome bands we're going to see and the parties we're going to attend - we're most excited, of course, about our "Local Music is Sexy" rock show + dance party going down at the Velvet Spade this Saturday (no cover! giveaways! hot Austin musicians!). With all our careful planning and preparations these past few weeks, the conditions for this weekend's party - and the ACL festival, and all the other afterparties happening around town - seem perfect.
Except, that is, for that goddamn hurricane approaching the Gulf Coast.
From the NYTimes:
Forecasters say that if the storm follows its predicted course, it will strike west of New Orleans - somewhere in southwest Louisiana or along the Texas coast - as early as Friday evening. But even if it does miss New Orleans, its accompanying rainstorms, even if they amount to only a few inches, could cause significant flooding in a city where some neighborhoods have never dried out and the levees have not been fully repaired, officials said. The National Weather Service said this morning that hurricane conditions were expected within 24 hours in the Keys and parts of the state's southeast and southwest coasts. It predicted that the center of Rita will pass near the lower Florida Keys around midday, and continue to move in a west and west-northwest motion over the next 24 hours.
According to weather.com, our weekend forecast looks something like this:
Fri Sep 23 - Mostly Cloudy - 96°/74°
Sat Sep 24 - Isolated T-Storms - 86°/72°
Sun Sep 25 - Scattered T-Storms - 93°/73°
Granted, it's only Tuesday, and much like Paris Hilton, the Amiga PCs employed by the national weather service are notorious for just not getting it. Then again, it might be nice to do with a bit of a shower while rocking out to Arcade Fire, Franz Ferdinand or Bloc Party - it sure beats the hell out of baking in the sun.
We'll keep you posted.
