Specifically, remember to go there next Tuesday or Wednesday night. No, not the historically significant Alamo in San Antonio, silly, we’re talking about the Alamo Drafthouse Village. Leave it to our friends at the Alamo to come up with a fantastic fundraiser for the victims of Hurricane Katrina.
Now, we know that we shouldn’t require some benefit for ourselves in order to help those displaced by the hurricane - we know that our monetary donations should really come from the goodness of our hearts, and be motivated solely by a burning desire to contribute to society at large and help our neighbors in their time of need - but, frankly, we don’t see anything wrong with helping out and having some fun in the process.
That’s why we plan to tell all our friends to come out to the Alamo next Tuesday or Wednesday night (or both) at 7:00 p.m. for a kick-ass meal of New Orleans cuisine and a showing of The Big Easy. The Alamo is generously donating 100% of the proceeds from this event to the Red Cross Katrina relief efforts.
Get your tickets quickly, folks, as these shows are sure to sell out lickety split. Your $25 ticket gets you the joy and satisfaction of knowing that all of it will go to the Red Cross for its continuing effort to help those still struggling in the wake of Katrina, as well as the chance to watch The Big Easy - starring Ellen Barkin and Austin’s own Dennis Quaid -while enjoying a traditional NOLA meal consisting of spicy Cajun BBQ shrimp on a bed of cheese grits paired with wine, followed by chicken sausage gumbo with rice, corn bread and wine, and topped off with beignets and café au lait for dessert. We're foaming at the mouth just thinking about this.
Why not have fun and help others? Leave it to the Alamo to offer us the perfect opportunity to do both. Check out the website for details and to purchase tickets. And, if you’re not going to finish your beignets, we will!
