Bush actually claims he was wrong? Is the end of days near?
We've already written to Carlos Mencia to nominate ex-FEMA director Michael Brown for next year's Dee Dee Dee awards. But, now Bush is actually admitting he is (at least) partially to blame for all the bullshit these people went through. He is quoted in the Statesman as saying, ""And to the extent that the federal government didn't fully do its job right, I take responsibility," he said. "I want to know what went right and what went wrong." We'll tell you what went wrong, W. You appointed your dumb ass horse whisperer friend to a job he knew nothing about. Then, when a huge hurricane engulfed an entire city, you lingered on vacation and accepted a gift guitar, and pretended to be Tom Cruise in "Risky Business" (source: Newsweek) while Brown fumbled and bumbled around like an idiot. Actually, that's not much different than what W. does, anyway.

By the way, the death toll is up to 423 in Louisiana alone.

Round Rock ain't Sixth Street. Well, no shit.
After a woman held a drag show in her OWN Round Rock coffee house, her business received its first ever fire inspection because people were concerned that too many, uh, queer folk, were piling inside. It didn't help that the drag queens were singing, "It's gettin' hot in herre." The mayor showed up to give the owner, Sarah Roberts, a talking to. We love love love sweet little ol' Sarah Roberts (see her picture below the mayor's from the Statesman here) for her defense. She noted that "everybody thinks it's funny and cute" when the high school boys dress up like cheerleaders for some "tradition."

Did your high school have that tradition? Tell us your thoughts in the comments.

Pylorns: I thought did make some specific statements. 1. appointed friend with NO experience to handle any kind of major disaster when obviously there are other people who could have done a better job. 2. lingered on vacation, imitated Risky Business while people drowned. Those are facts.

  • Ok, how bout being just a little less biased. He (Bush) admited he would take the blame, but how about we look at the facts instead of make blanket statements and not support them. I could say everyone at the Austinist are Nazis and if I said it enough, and loud enough people would start to question wether or not you were. But what do I have to support that arugment?

What do you expect?!? It's Williamson County for cryin' out loud. A county where you get thrown in one of the worst jails in Texas for farting in public (so I've heard). At least they're consistent and never disappoint. It never fails to fascinate how two of the most diametrically opposed counties (politics, city planning, lifestyle, etc.) ended up right next door. Is it just a cruel experiment?

thank god for round rock. it keeps austin from sucking. keeping those bad people mostly isolated just far enought that they can't affect our great community is excellent. maybe toll roads will even help. here's to sarah for trying to be better!

by the way, just for kicks, i went to craigslist there are more than a few men seeking men up in round rock. (just for kicks, i might have to drive up there tonight) looks like there's all kinds of sucking going on in round rock.

Yes, they did dress up like cheerleaders. I declined to attend the event, as it was clearly going to be full of hosers.

Also "Joy" -- isn't that in RR too?

It's amazing Nyle Maxwell can say "Gay people aren't welcome here because it's immoral" while allowing businesses like Hooters, the Tilted Kilt and Graham Central Station (with it's upcoming $300 naughty school girl contest!) to do business. Hypocrisy much?

I couldn't have better phrased the comments about Bush's inadequate leadership if I had tried myself.
