A Canoe, Maps and Organs

We will give you seven reasons to head over to Emo’s this Friday.

1. It is Loxsly’s CD release show. After becoming a full fledged band over the past year, Loxsly has matured (literally) into quite the local boy band. Cody Ground and his bubble-pop brigade are set to self-release Maps + Organs, which expands on their 2003 Forecast a Brainstorm release which was mostly just Cody messing around with his electro-pop sound. When the full band went into the studio to record, they came out with a fuller and more expansive set of pop songs that feature bells, whistles, slide guitar and of course, the organ. We hear that the first 100 CDs will feature some limited edition artwork by Jen Dunlap. So make sure to bring some cash to get your copy.

2. It is (rumored to be) Canoe’s last show! If you have never caught these guys live you have to be at this show. And if you have seen their drunk and roll spectacle then you know the fun that is in store for you. We’re sure they won’t go away quietly.

3. Phosphorescent is the only touring band on this local bill and we keep hearing great things. Matthew Houck and Co. are supporting their latest, Aw Come Aw Wry which is proving to be one of the better releases so far this year.

4. Come see Voxtrot before they head back to NYC for their CMJ showcase and become big rock stars.

5. Belaire always brings the dance party (and the occasional Kanye West cover).

6. Zykos is sporting a new drummer (Cully Symington from 1986) and we enjoy watching him pound his set. Yeah, we said it.

7. It’s FREE!
