Contaminated water is being pumped out of New Orleans, now that a major levee has been plugged. The mayor is saying it could take up to two months to get the water cleared out and the energy back on. In an article in The Statesman, Austin is praised for its generosity. About three warehouses are full of donations; they're so full, in fact, that donations are being put on hold in Austin . Monetary donations are still needed, and if you want to make a contribution, you can go through the Red Cross. Mayor Wynn said he thinks some of the now 4,000 refugees* will stay in Austin. KXAN has a useful page on their site that list other ways you can help .

In other "news," the Statesman reports that Lance Armstrong and Sheryl Crow are engaged , and he is considering pursuing an 8th victory in the Tour de France. He is quoted as saying, "I'm thinking it's the best way to piss (the French) off."

*These are refugees who are in shelters. It does not include the others who are staying in hotels, with family, friends, etc.

Well, Alex, if, by "dick", you mean an amazing athlete who has managed to not only overcome prolific cancer but also to bring worldwide attention to the sport of cycling by doing what was previously thought to be impossible and then doing it yet again, when he won his 7th straight TdF, then yes - you're right - he is a dick. Totally.
