What was that sound?

bang.jpg

On Monday night, we were sitting outside at our home-away-from-home, Bouldin Creek Coffeehouse, and we heard a strange popping noise. For about 20 minutes. We pondered on the noise. It could have been fireworks, a cluster bomb, or the sound of thousands of people slapping mosquitos on their legs...very loudly.

So this question has bugged us and we thought we'd leave it up to you to decide what it was. Or maybe a few of you are in the know and wouldn't mind enlightening the rest of us. Please.

My friend lives right next door to Bouldin(which is my home away from home too, maybe we've seen each other?) and he said there was a firework display.

SN - THANK YOU! I was driving home, heading north on Congress from south of the river and saw the whole thing. I have been racking my poor little brain since then, trying to figure out what on earth the significance of Aug. 29th was/is to warrant a 4th of Julyesque display of fireworks. It was pretty cool. Thanks for the answer. Now I can finally sleep and use what few brain cells I have left for other more important things. Like trying to figure out what else the lead actor in the movie I watched last night has been in...

Glastron Boats, founded in Austin, TX. in 1956, held a big fireworks show Monday behind the Hilton to kick off their 50 year anniversary celebration. I've heard that it was pretty spectacular. Since the actual date they turn 50 is Sept., 2006, I'm guessing that they plan to celebrate all year long - kinda like I did for high school graduation.
