Hey, Guess What? Some people in Austin make art.

Like Michael Schliefke. He lives in Austin and he paints. Cool.

Tonight (Friday, August 26th) from 6pm-12am, Schliefke will be opening his latest art showing, "A Hopeless Romance". Visit the Galerie Jean Moulin--once a house, now a gallery located one block west of Quacks--to see 20 new works and more than a dozen older pieces. Schliefke's work is big, bold, colorful portraits of the ordinary (a family a on their farm, morning breakfast in a busy household), the fabulous (fashion shows, honkey tonk dancing, nude picnics), and a touch of the unusual. It feels a little bit Degas, a little bit Van Gogh, and a lot American. No, we don't know that much about art history, thank you for asking.

We think you should go. Who needs another Friday night shoving popcorn in their face, sucking down coke, waiting for the loud teenagers to shut up already so you can watch the next Hollywood piece of shite? Another night getting drunk on Red River, losing your cell phone, drunken flirting, greasy IHOP at 3am? Okay, that sounds fun, but it can wait till later. We got all night baby. Start with the art.
