We are hungry and we want that addictive creamy salsa dip, diets be damned. It is all Matthew Odam's fault. He knows a hot mama (or two) and gave us a sample of the stuff via the mama. Now we are hooked. We want it with corn chips. We want it with potato chips. We want it for lunch and dinner and multiple snacks in between. We want to get down on one knee and give it our grandmother's heirloom engagement ring. It's called Creamy Cilantro Salsa Dip and it is evil. In a good way.
Two Hot Mamas is a local salsa company comprised of two Austin ladies with very spicy desires. Besides the cilantro dip, they offer three salsa varieties: Salsa Roja, a chunky tomato based blend; Chile Verde, a tomatillo blend; and Mambo Combo--a combination of the Roja and Verde varieties. Contributor Matthew Odam had this to say about their hot sauces: "We enjoyed the spice and composition of the smooth and smoky salsas, both the Chile Verde and the Salsa Roja, but we suggest you go with the Hot over the mild if you want some true kick, as the mild left us wanting more. The Mambo Combo offered the most original and lasting flavor of the three tomato-based salsas. But the piece de resistance without doubt was the unique creamy cilantro dip. One would figure that a sour cream-based dip would not have the requisite spice for a Mexican accoutrement, but one would be sadly mistaken. We began our tasting by dipping corn chips in the creamy concoction and ended said tasting by pouring the entire damn thing into our mouth. It is that good. We imagine the creamy cilantro could be used for vegetable dipping, salad dressing, basting and shooting up if the spirit moves you." Hot stuff.
You can buy their original recipes at Central Market. And you can taste their award winning salsas at the annual Austin Chronicle Hot Sauce Festival, which takes place this year on Sunday, August 28th at Waterloo Park.
Hey Austinist readers, tell us about your favorite salsa! You, yeah you!

i tried there creamy cilantro once at a friend's house. i almost mugged them for the rest of it. sooo good. i will definitely be at the salsa fest.
I used to LOVE the (believe it or not) Serrano's salsa when they sold it at HEB. It tasted much better than the salsa they actually serve at their restaurants.
Does anyone know whether or not Vivo’s (off Manor) sells their salsa? My lord! It’s so delicious I just drowned in a rushing flood of my own saliva.
In a pinch I use La Fogata's Chipotle hot sauce, small jar w/ a yellow label by the chips.
When I'm feeling up to it then I make my own.
