JM of 302 Designs has informed Austinist of a benefit concert for a little known, but worthy cause. We ask you to consider getting your musical entertainment tomorrow night (Saturday the 20th) at the Rhizome Collective at 300 Allen St. Three bands will be playing and it's just $5 to get in. It all starts at 7pm.

So where does your money go?

To the Wakapala Children and Youth Group Action Committee Austin Division!

This is a grossroots community development project working to create an environment for the Wakapala Children (of the Standing Rock reservation in South Dakota) that is free of drugs, alcohol, and violence. It also seeks to build a strong bond of friendship with the Wakapala youth through equality and, of course, love.

It's no secret that conditions on many Native American reservations are grim for many living there. Some of the sad conditions facing the Standing Rock reservation include unemployment rates ranging from 66% to 89%, a high incidence of suicide among youth (15 this year alone),
high drop out rates, and high rates of violent crime.

So, yes, Wakapala youth live in South Dakota, not Texas. But we find it awesome that individuals from out little city are reaching out to those in need all over our great land.
