Not For the Faint of Heart SEX

dovcharney.jpg

The rumors appear to be true. Dov Charney and his minions will soon be opening an American Apparel in Austin. The specifics (like an address) aren't available yet, but they're already hiring!

Once, we lived in New York and needed a part time job, so we applied at AA. You can expect to have a polaroid taken during your second interview and you can expect lots of attractive competition.

We don't know why Austinites would shop at AA when they can get AA shirts/skirts/underwear at local places like Pangea for half the price they sell it in AA boutiques. Why? We don't know. Doesn't make sense to us.

So for those of you unafraid of Dov and willing to sulk around, looking hot and comfortable, please, go apply.

It is a fact that Dov masturbated in front of a journalist, who was writing a profile on him.

I think American Apparel is an admirable company and I like their clothes.

But Dov's habits are - at times - disturbing.

  • Kevin

AA clothes are great. I don't beleive the false statements being made about Dov. The clothing industry is a very sexual industry, and so if he's getting a little on the side, its proabbly just two consenting adults having fun.

  • Sam

Why are we being so hard on this guy. Aren't AA products great, isn't the service good. ISn't that why we go to a store and buy clothes; bec the product not who the president is. I'd never by anything then.

  • Ginger Rogers

Ooh-I am so looking up a recipe for that drink right now!

  • kss

the drinks mentioned being pomegranate mojitos

    dizzamn!

there is so much more available at american apparel stores than what you can find in places like pangaea. a lot of the clothes aren't for sale in bulk, so you can only get them in teh store/online. and, sure, you can access the store online, but it is always nice to be able to try things on and not pay for shipping.

gaawwwd i love their v-neck cotton shirt.

and i love that the williamsburg store is open late so you can wander over, drunk on drinks from SEA, and buy lots of shirts in pretty colors and flirt with cute salespeople.

okay, enough of that! back to work.

    Lolo,

I'm not talking about the photoshoots. those are great. im talking about the homemade video stuff.

  • Billybob

Totally. American Apparel keeps it real with real 'models'. And the thread count is super!

  • Lolo

Let's not exagerate here. The ads are infinitely better than anything put out by the Gap or Abercrombie or anyone like that.

They do not use professional models and they do not retouch the photos extensively. The models are definitely sexy but how refreshing is it that you can be sexy and not be 6 foot tall and weigh 105 pounds. They get my business just for that.

Well, that and the soft as butter t-shirts, the awesome yoga pants and the lack of a logo. American Apparel Rules!

  • Justin

im sorry, i like the shirts, but that dude is a perv. always has been, always will be. the little homemade video commericials are creepy enough for me to assume that he drives a van filled with candy around playgrounds during his free time.

  • Kat

    BTW--

DON'T park in the Burger King parking lot. There's parking in the back.

  • Kat

There is one by MoJo's on Guadelupe, I think.

  • samson

The clothes are pretty comfy, but there's some inconsistency on how well they wear. Some stuff I've bought there lasts forever, and other stuff seems to fade or stretch out of shape pretty quick.

I don't think their ads are any worse than the competition's, either. The Gap ads might be really toned down, but Buffalo Jeans, Mexx, and Diesel are just as trashy. The only real difference I can see between them is that American Apparel doesn't actually splurge on the photography and the models.

  • Fred

Where is the Pangea store in Austin?

  • Ben

AA is an interesting beast...I dig the no sweatshop but their advertising is a bit on the whorish side. Half the time I'm afraid to open their web site at work in fear of having nudity pop up on my monitor.

  • Sam

AA are great clothes. Besides being cool and stylish, the company also never uses sweat shop labor. Their employees have better pay than the average employee of a garment factory, plus they are given benefits.

Even more reason to support a cool company.

  • Katie Spence

Yes, that was during a Jane Magazine interview. The person who did the interview folled Dov around for a while and he masturbated in front of her. With an AA employee.

You can read an exerpt here.

  • Allen

I love my AA, but sometimes it's like wearing saran wrap - they don't breathe! Or it could be my natural gift for perspiring profusely. In Texas, hard to tell.

And AA shops rock - they always have hot clerks.

  • Ginger Rogers

Once I read an article about that guy (Dov) and he had to stop the interview to jack off...in front of the poor girl interviewing him. Ewww. Cute skirts, though.
