Let's Go Out to Dinner and See a Movie

Although we know you like to boogey and we know you like to booze, sometimes a nice night at the movies and a big tub of buttered popcorn makes is perfect recipe for a relaxing weekend evening, especially with all this rain. With that said, there are a few new movies being released in Austin theatres this weekend and a host of first-runs worth checking out if you have not already taken our advice. (Heads Up: Don’t be dismayed by the less than stellar releases this weekend and make sure to check back next week for our review of Bill Murray’s latest gem, “Broken Flowers,” a film we absolutely loved.)

The Dukes of Hazzard
Well, the big week is finally here. Fourteen year old boys across the country are rejoicing and wondering how on earth they are going to cover up their erections as the vacuous Jessica Simpson hits screens this weekend in “The Dukes of Hazard.” We will not be boycotting this film due to the fact that it sullies the good name of Southern Culture and the family-friendly nature of the 70's television show, the way the original Cooter insists; we will not be going because it obviously sucks. Why pay $8 for bad jokes and gratuitous T&A when you can just go down to 6th street?

The Beautiful Country
A tale of a young boy of mixed Vietnamese and American heritage goes on a journey to find his parents and, in turn, gain a better understanding of who he is.

Sarkar
A Bollywood homage and interpretation of The Godfather, Sarkar is set in Mumbai and tells the story of a man looking to avenge the death of his slain daughter. The very stylized movie is reportedly a bit of a letdown if you are familiar with the director’s earlier work, Satya, a film that covered similar ground. But we would imagine you are not.
