If at first (second, third) you don't succeed, quit!
So said Tom Craddick, House Speaker, about the Legislative special session regarding paying for public schools. Craddick said they are wasting time and money in these sessions, and should agree to resolve them, just not in a special session. Maybe it has something to do with his Alaskan fishing trip scheduled next week, the one he'll miss if they stay in session? A great lesson for the kiddies, Tom! You don't get algebra, well, fuck it! You'll figure it out later. Let's play kickball! [Statesman]

School supplies: The only fun thing about starting school
Nonprofit agency For the Children are doing something for underpriveleged students. With a few partners, they are sponsoring a school supply collection. You can do your part by picking up school supplies at HEB and dropping them in the designated bins in the store until August 14th. Supplies will be distributed as needed. HEB has a list of school suppplies needed if you want to donate. It's been our experience in the nonprofit world that people feel more inclined to help a small child...let's not forget our middle, high school, and college kids.
