Why Order a Bud When You Can Have a Shiner?

congress_ave.jpg

Sure, Starbucks is tasty and easy and, heck, some of them have drive-thru's! Damn Starbucks. But our frappuccinos and our soft tacos from Chipotle and our special Make Your Own Pasta dish from Macaroni Grill should only supplement our visits and purchases from local businesses. Not only is it the right thing to do, not only does it help benefit and support our local economy, but Austin has a heaping number of fantastic businesses that are worth your time and dollar. Yeah, Starbucks has the java chip frappaccino, but Pacha (4618 Burnet Rd.) has the super duper yummy Pacha shake made by one of our favorite baristas (the guy in the pony tail or the guy in the glasses). Plus it is a cozier place to work on one's dissertation or novel or meet up with a friend over some sweet potato frittata. Not to mention the fact that they toast your muffin for you!

Choose Austin First
is a cooperative of local businesses dedicated to promoting the shop local mentality, supporting each other's diverse offerings, contributing to the what makes Austin unique, and strengthening our sense of community. Instead of getting your dog shampooed at Petco or Petsmart, take it to Dirty Dog and do it yourself in one of their big tubs with hose attached! It's a lot more fun and satsifying, we think. And, of course, everyone knows that Mangia Pizza is way better than boring old Pizza Hut or Papa John's.

As a consumer you have power. We urge you to do your part to keep Austin, well, Austin!

I heard about a good pizza place right next to Madam mamm's on the drag. It is called something like slices and ice. Has anyone been there?

Saccone's tasted good going down, and really bad coming back up the following 24 hours.

saccone's good. nikki's not bad for mall pizza on a campus but not as good as saccones or rounders. at rounders, ask them to do it well-done, much better.

we will be doing several posts about pizza joints in the near future

Better than Amy's?! Think again. Rounders is on 6th.

Want good pie, try Saccones. It's way North but worth the drive. Or try Nikki's in Dobie. Go now while school's out.
