This Ain’t No TV Show

Austin hiker Gilbert Dewey Gaedcke III, 41, got more than he bargained for on his recent visit to Hawaii. Gaedcke, an experienced hiker, decided he simply had to get a better look of the gorgeous volcanic lava flows the islands have to offer, so he struck out one evening last week in search of better views. Unfortunately for Gaedcke, he got lost in Volcanoes National Park and wandered the lava fields for five days, sustaining himself on water rendered from moss and vegetation. Miraculously, the wayward hiker was spotted by a teenager taking a helicopter tour of the island.
