Rejoice, Austinites! One of our most esteemed local entertainment staples has returned after ... a period of time when they were gone. Those wild ‘n crazy guys of the Sinus Show are bringing back their lawsuit-worthy antics (apparently it’s all legal now) this Friday. Join them as they skewer the 1984 relic Red Dawn, starring mega hunks Patrick Swayze and Charlie Sheen. According to IMDb, this movie is about a group of Midwestern high school students who organize themselves into a guerilla force to fight off invading Soviet armies at the outbreak of World War III.

Um, what?

Yeah, we don’t know, we never saw this film. Only in the 80s could our country’s future and safety rely solely upon the likes of Patrick Swayze. We need you, Johnny Castle!

Whether or not you have seen this flick, the Sinus boys are sure to give it a whole new twist with their snappy voice-overs, signature drinking games, and hilarious skits. Buy your tickets early, the Sinus shows always sell out.

The Sinus Show presents Red Dawn
Friday, July 15th
7pm and 9:45pm
Alamo Drafthouse Downtown

i like how old people try and act superior to people below the age of 25 because they have seen a shitty movie that the youngin' hasn't

  • Never heard of Red Dawn = Stomping on my youth

I bet you never heard of Mr. T either.

  • Over 25, thank you very much, and my buddies and I used to fantasize having about having a Red Dawn scenario happen to us during our boring math class. We LOVED that movie.

Nowadays, those prepubescent boyhood fantasies (and the drawings and battle plans we drafted in the corners of our notes) would get us kicked out of school and probably get us a breaking story on CNN. Safety first, my ass. it's called TRAINING!

And, yes, it is easily the most asinine premise for a movie imaginable.

And it will be tons of fun on Friday watching it get "the treatment."

Whoa. Lots of love for Red Dawn, I see. Hope you guys go to the Sinus show and voice your support!

And I apologize for never seeing this movie - it really wasn't/isn't up my alley. Especially when I was 4. If only I could go back in time and rectify this.

  • I've seen it! I'm 31! Red Dawn! Red Dawn! I don't remember it very well, though. Is C. Thomas Howell is this one? I used to have a mad crush on him. Like when I was 9.

I agree with Mr. Austin and Jaco! WTF? Is anyone at the Austinist over the age of 25?

    WOLVERINES!!!

  • Jaco

The whole story in this movie is about Russians and Cubans (along with Nicaraguans) invading the U.S. and how it affects the lives of some high school kids. These kids become "The Wolverines". Named after their high school mascot, they become guerillas, slowly taking out small enemy installations and equipment. They do not single-handedly destroy all the commies as some other reviewers think that was depicted! There were other guerilla units, too. This is the real deal folks! Respect.

Never seen Red Dawn? Are you kidding? How old are you? Or better yet, how old does that make me?

  • Joe Austin

    Never saw this movie??!

This is an 80's classic. HOw old are you?!

    "Wolverines...!!!!!"

  • Guest

I remember this movie when it came out, it was one of the first PG-13 movies. I also saw the Mr. Sinus treatment (probably about a year ago)-- there are so many cornball lines in the movie, it will be a laff-a-minute. Also look for a nice supporting role by Superfly himself (Ron O'Neal) as a Cuban general.

As for the drinking game... if it's the same as last time, you'll have to hoist your glass every time the word "WOLVERINES!" is uttered.
