Music That Is Beyond Borders

CT.jpg

Latin rock band Cafe Tacvba will be performing at two venues in our fair city. Their first show will be at Austin City Limits on Monday, July 11. Don't think you can get tickets to that show? Wipe those tears away because they will also be performing on Tuesday at Stubb's BBQ.

Are you weary about going to see a band whose lyrics are entirely in Spanish? Fear not, because we know that music is an international language and you don't want to miss out on Café Tacvba (also spelled "Tacuba"), the Mexico City band whose members Ruben Albarran, Joselo Rangel, Emmanuel "Meme" Del Real, and Enrique "Quique" Rangel, single-handedly wowed the crowds at this year's Coachella. They're critical darlings, landing on just about everyone's best-of lists of 2003 for their Grammy-winning album, Cuatro Caminos. As far as what their music style is like we can define it as a little bit of ska, a little bit punk, but a whole lotta rocanrol.

Go see them, not just because they are hip, wear fashionable clothes, and are too modest to acknowledge their coolness (all of which is true, but we digress), but go see them because they will rock your pantalones off!

I saw both Cafe Tacvba shows - in Houston Saturday night and Tuesday night at Stubbs. (I'm a very lucky girl cause I scored free tickets to both shows).

If you're strictly a Cafe Tacvba nut - I'd have to say the Austin crowd got the better show. They played almost identical sets at both venues, but then went into an 8 song encore at Stubbs that absolutely rocked the house. It looked like a freakin Friday night show...it was so packed. Kudos to Charles Attal and company for booking them and going outside the traditional alt-country rock band profile. For you gringos out there who are getting hip to the roc-en-espanol vibe - check out Kinky, Ely Guerra and old timers los Aterciopelados and Soda Stereo next time you're at Waterloo.
