Go Directly to Jail. This sounds like something off of Fark. A San Marcos man was arrested for saving someone's life. Houston visitor Abed Duamni was swimming in the San Marcos River and could not get out of a current. Dave Newman jumped in and saved him. But, emergency workers said they did not know how many people were in trouble, and after Duamni was safe, Newman did not immediately come and talk to them. Newman said, damn, dudes, I just saved a guy from drowning and I'm a little tired, give me a freaking break...or something to that effect. Being a hero got him a Class B misdemeanor, with a maximum punishment of 180 days in jail and a $2000 fine. The charges could very well be dropped, but still.... [Source]
Oh, the irony! Two East Austin homes burned to the ground Monday night, probably due to fireworks. One house was vacant, but the other was a Habitat for Humanity home. Habitat and neighbors are helping Toni Hernandez by setting up a donation account at Bank of America (donate to her name), and Habitat will help her figure out what do to next...build another house, maybe?
