Hollywood celebrities are nucking futs. Need we bore you with more gossip of TomKat, Brangelina, or Jacko? We're sure you get our point. Still, the reigning queen of the crazies was without a doubt the legendary Joan Crawford - movie star diva, obsessive-compulsive clean freak, and manic-depressive mother. She and her spawn were in desperate need of medication, as made all-too public in the scathing memoir by Crawford's daughter Christina, Mommie Dearest.

In 1981, Frank Perry decided to adapt the story for film, casting Faye Dunaway in the lead role of the mad matron. What was meant as a serious melodrama turned out to be anything but: the film adaptation of "Mommie Dearest" is a farcical, campy horror-drama-comedy that is, even during its tamest parts, completely ridiculous. And scary. Which, naturally, lends itself perfectly to public ridicule.

The Austin Gay and Lesbian International Film Festival is more than happy to oblige. Now four years into the running, tonight the aGLIFF puts on its annual "Mommie Dearest" Roast at the Alamo Drafthouse Downtown. Scream along with Faye with your complimentary wire hangar in hand, participate in the Joan Crawford lookalike contest, or simply sit back and admire just how terrible and cheesy cinema can be.
