London Calling

Austinist eagerly anticipates the beginning of each month, when our neighborhood postwoman shows up with a plain, unmarked brown package. And two weeks later, after Naughty Grannies! has long but gone stale, another similarly nondescript envelope arrives in our mailbox, only this one has AIRMAIL boldly emblazoned on the package face:
The Fabric compilation!
We're far from hip-hop aficionados - we never quite got over last decade's bicoastal rap feud - but we're nuts about the monthly Fabric releases. Produced by the blokes behind the London venue of the same name, Fabric is a monthly showcase of what's currently enjoying heavy rotation at one of the city's coolest nightclubs.
The CDs arrive in a beautifully embossed metallic tin, and feature a rotating cast of guest DJs spinning everything from hiphop to electro to house to indie rock. Recent albums feature the talent of Jacques Lu Cont, John Digweed, and Adam Beyer; even the late John Peel, Britain's premiere music tastemaker, collaborated on an early release.
The current issue of their live compilation, FabricLive 22, includes songs by Roots Manuva, The Perceptionists, Alter Ego, Kanye West, and Radiohead. While Austin is several blue states and an ocean away from London, we nevertheless felt it appropriate to share with you this fantastic little find; what you'll discover is that, thousands of miles from Central Texas, the tunes they're listening to are much the same as ours.
