Austin is bracing itself for another change in the skyline, as MetLife will begin to build its 27 story apartments later in the year. The building is going up at Caesar Chavez and Colorado. The Dallas-based architects claim it will be a "fairly prominent building on the skyline." It will house 196 apartments, including 6 three-story town homes and 3 two-story penthouses. [Source]

East Austin residents are miffed about rising property taxes now that everyone isn't afraid to live there. The City is offering people that have lived there for generations incentives, but says it cannot control the market. They say mixed income housing in East Austin will protect the neighborhood. Property taxes on single family homes have more than doubled over the last seven years. [Source]
