Austin's Hot, Sticky Sweat

sweat banner.jpg

We know Austin is cool, but apparently we’re pretty damn hot as well. In a public relations/advertising gimmick as blatant as any we have seen in weeks minutes, Old Spice antiperspirant today announced that Austin is the 18th sweatiest city in America. The ‘experts’ compiled their Top 100 List by using the average U.S. male/female height/weight along with average high temperature and relative humidity. In a move that surely skews the numbers disproportionately for fat, lazy towns like Houston (6th), the sweat level was computed under the assumption that each individual walked for an hour a day.

The great state of Texas placed seven cities in the top 18, with El Paso leading the way as the Sweatiest City in America. Youngstown, Ohio and San Diego, California round out the Top 100.

Old Spice suggests a few tips to keeping cool, dry and safe during these hot summer months, among them, drink plenty of water, wear light-weight clothing, replace lost salts and minerals, and, of course, wear Old Spice. Yea, good try, boys. When we need to cool off, Austinist grabs a cold margarita and takes a dip in Barton Springs.

We guess clever polls like this are why they pay those advertising/marketing/branding/public relations geniuses so much. We bet at least one of you gets the Old Spice jingle stuck in your head after reading this post. (Psst….we’re on their payroll!)

Having lived in El Paso for 18 years and in New Orleans for 6, there is no way EP is sweatier than nola. But I guess they do have some wierd body type/avg. temperature formula I don't quite get. My friend sent me this list a couple of months ago and pointed out that I like to live in sweaty cities. Better that than snow blizzards I say.

austin is also the suicide capital of the US

where is your proof that Austin is the suicide capital of the US? or is that a joke?

"...the sweat level was computed under the assumption that each individual walked for an hour a day."

Haaa-hahahahahahaha! I grew up in Houston. People there walk maybe 10 minutes a day.

With great spots like Town Lake, Brushy Creek, etc., Austin is way schweatier. And I like it that way.
