Tonight: Stereo Total @ The Parish Room

The first song we heard from French-German duo Stereo Total was off their 2001 LP, Musique Automatique. It was called "L'Amour À 3", which pretty much translates to "Love With the Three of Us", which pretty much sums up the song's message: Françoise Cactus and Brezel Göring enthusiastically endorse threesomes. Almost as interesting as the message - which was hot - was the manner in which it was delivered: whimsical synthpop, a generous helping of sampled vocals, and the song literally climaxing to orgiastic oomphs and aughs.

The rest of their expansive collection plays like a DJ with ADD: while staying faithful to their trademark synthesizer, they jump from pop to electronica to rock to folk and back. We love them because regardless of what they're singing about - monsters, robots, or Brigitte Bardot - all of their songs have this lighthearted, kitschy silliness that reminds us that we don't need to always take ourselves quite so seriously.

Now on tour supporting their latest LP, Do the Bambi, Stereo Total play the Parish Room tonight. Tickets are available at the door or online.
