Roddick, American Men Lose the French Connection

Austin resident, and overall jock heartthrob, Andy Roddick exited the French Open right on cue today. For the fifth time in as many years, Roddick failed to make it to the second week at Roland Garros.

Argentine Jose Acasuso dispatched Roddick in five sets (3-6, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 8-6). The match lasted 3 hours and 21 minutes. Roddick’s loss coincides with losses by fellow Americans Vince Spadea, who had to retire due to a strained stomach muscle, and Austinist favorite James Blake , who spent most of last year on the shelf due to shingles and a neck injury.

The poor showing Thursday by the American men means the only Americans left in the tournament reside on the women’s side of the bracket. And not an Austinite in sight.

exactly. besides, roddick is top 5 in the world, so he is no slocuh, but he is not very good on the clay. usually euros and south americans fare better on it than we. the americans are better hard court players. but besides roddick at #5 and aggasi at #10, i belive, there is not another american in the top 25.

Holy shit. I take that back! I checked out the ranking for the Women's French Open, and all those little bronzed lolita-nymphets kick ass.

I don't know much about tennis, except for 1 thing: If you're young and hot, you will suck. Just look at Anna Kournikova compared to, say, Billie Jean King.
