I’m in a Mental Hospital, Bitch!

rick james.jpg Shocking news has surfaced revealing that Dave Chappelle, star of Comedy Central’s “Chappelle’s Show,” has been admitted to a psychiatric hospital in South Africa. It may seem like just another Kaufman-esque type joke , but all signs point to Dave Chappelle and his show not returning to its sketch comedy throne anytime soon.

Chappelle, who received a new 2-year 50 million dollar contract for seasons three and four, has pushed production back several times due to alleged writer’s block. The media consensus was that Chappelle had postponed production because he felt overwhelming pressure to top his successes of the first year, while remaining fresh and innovative. Most recently, The New Yorker reported spotting Chappelle at the U.S.A. Shaolin Temple in New York City celebrating the birthday of Sifu Shi YanMing. Chappelle, the RZA, Wesley Snipes and Jim Jarmusch, among others, were in attendance for some high flying kung-fu, birthday cake and beer (and probably a few other things that can be inhaled).

Austinist hopes that Chappelle does whatever it takes to get back to 100% mental health, a place we remember fondly. After all, who is going to make us laugh until we blow Oreos and milk out of our nose if Dave does not return. In the meantime, we will miss you ‘Rick James,’ ‘Tyrone,’ ‘Lil John,’ and ‘Tron.’

Although we are not ready to give up hope that Chappelle will return, we wonder what your favorite Chappelle's Show sketch was.

Apparently Chappelle is a devout Muslim and he has become more fervently religious over the past year and no longer finds his material funny. His nervous breakdown is allegedly a result of this radical religious awakening.

I laughed out loud at that headline.

Doesn't this kind of seem like it could be a Chappelle play on media and speculation? The accounts are sketchy at best.

i have no earthly idea what to believe. i could believe everythign and nothing and it would all be the same

i am not too sure.
comedy central made MAD money off that cat, and they are way behind in scheduling.
it does nothelp CC at all to let him keep pushing the date back.
something is probably up.

Favorite skit - Prince & the Revolution beating Charlie Muphy and friends in basketball. Ducking and saying "Game. Blouses"

Did you mean throne and not thrown?
