Yes, the Austinist is obsessed with Safeplace
This weekend you will have your choice of ways to help out Austinist's favorite charity, Safeplace.
First, we'd like to remind you that the Tripartite festival, which we posted about last week, takes place on Firday, May 6, 2005, at Jo’s (1300 S. Congress). Program starts at 8:30PM. Admission is free but donations (all of which will go to SafePlace) are encouraged. The Austinist recommends bringing your own chair as seating will be limited.
This year’s festival features nine short films from local filmmakers: Pilot & Olo, Kat Candler; Santa Ana, Ryan Cox; When the Cat’s Away, Aaron Marshall; The Keening, Alex Smith and Andrew Smith; Lost Not Found, Sean Ripple; Daniel, Jason Cooper; Barney, Stacy Schoolfield; Lead Role: Father, P.J. Raval; and The Color White, Angela K. Pires.
On Saturday, The Velvet Spade (912 Red River) invites you to join Carrie Glassmeyer, Lesley Nisbet, John Pitts & Martha Small at this years "SpringFling for SafePlace." The event features music by Stephen Clarke (10pm) and DJ Sean Haynes (8pm & 11:30 pm) and all proceeds go to SafePlace Austin and the Nicole Akin Foundation. Tickets are $20 if purchased via credit card before May 6th, or $30 at the door.
