Le Nozze di Figaro

Think you have to leave town to to get your fix of High Culture? Think again. Our little hamlet is one of a select number of US cities that boasts an Art Museum, a Ballet, a Symphony Orchestra, as well as an Opera!

Starting today and running through this Monday, May 2, Austin Lyric Opera is putting on a production of The Marriage of Figaro at the Bass Concert Hall.

Your choice of showtime and seating will greatly influence your cost for tickets. Prices range from $15-$109, with a median per ticket charge of approximatly $60. There is a also a $2.50 per ticket Performing Arts Center maintenance tax plus a $3 service fee per single ticket order.

If you have never been to an Opera before, and don't know if it is your cup of tea, you may want to check out the Opera Myths section of ALO's web site. It has a lot of good information for Opera novices. The following brief excerpt we believe is worthy of a special mention:

I DON’T SPEAK ITALIAN (or German or French)

Neither do we. While many operas are sung in Italian, German, or French, English supertitles are always projected above the stage for your convenience. You’ll be able to follow every twist & turn of the plot without missing a note of the glorious music.

The Marriage of Figaro is also one of the more accessible operas for first time attendees as the music will be familiar to most people who have either listened to classical or watched Bugs Bunny cartoons.
