Enron (the smartest guys in the room) En-Rulz!
This Friday marks the opening of Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room at the Dobie and South Lamar Alamo theaters. The film was in Austin about a month ago when it showed at SXSW, so some of you lucky ones may have already seen it. (Also? It's based on the book of the same name.)
None of that really matters though. Austinist just wants you to go see this film. We know. It's been a few years since the Enron scandal hit. Director Alex Gibney took his time making the documentary, patiently gathering footage and researching Enron. The resulting film communicates that - everyone is saying so.
The Smartest Guys in the Room disects the corperate culture inside Enron and how it contributed to its demise. The film is filled with in-house audio and video footage from the glory days of Enron. You will be able to hear Enron execs joking about stealing money from grandmas and bilking the state of California out of millions. (You can go to the film's website for a taste. If you check out the trailer, you'll get to see Ken Lay being asked if he's on crack!)
So when you finish watching Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, go slap some money down to see how Enron bilked the country out of a few dollars.
