All Quiet on the Metal Front
Once again, for those about to rock, there’s not a lot to choose from this week.
Dresden Dolls - The Dresden Dolls (Roadrunner)
Equal parts cabaret and goth, this duo channels the musical vibe of a pre-war Berlin. Roadrunner is re-releasing their self-titled indie debut. The Dresden Dolls will be supporting NIN when they play their sold-out Austin show later this May.
Porcupine Tree - Dead Wing (Lava/Atlantic)
Fans of Opeth and Anathema should already be familiar with this amazing British band. A little lighter than Opeth, but just as talented, Porcupine Tree push the boundaries of progressive metal and consistently deliver albums worthy of your attention. Lava/Atlantic is re-relasing Dead Wing as a special edition that comes in a 72 page hardback book package and includes both the CD stereo version and DVD-V 5.1 surround sound version. Opeth frontman Mikael Åkerfeldt plays guitar on one track and sings backing vocals on five songs.
And the Austinist "this one goes to eleven" pick of the week is:
DJ Spooky and Dave Lombardo - Drums of Death (Thirsty Ear)
There ain’t a damn thing nu-metal about this album at all. That subliminal kid and the thrash god himself team up on the collabo that General Patton vs. The X-Ecutioners promised to be. Produced by Meat Beat Manifesto, Drums of Death also features guest appearances from Living Colour guitarist Vernon Reid and Chuck D of Public Enemy.

Dresden Dolls' "Missed Me" is so deliciously subversive.
