Sunday and Monday Movie Fun!
Don't have cable so you can't watch the Ian McShane define cool on the new Deadwood tonight? That's ok, Austinist has a Tivo, so you can come over and watch later on this week. We like company.
Instead, we recommend you head on down to the Spider House around 8:30 tonight to catch the Austin Premiere of filmmaker and native Texan Patrick Phillips' new documentary The Cost of War, an outline of the conditions, emotional and otherwise, war has rendered onto American soldiers and their families. Veterans from the Korean War through the on-going tragedy addled Iraq War, describe how their experiences during these descents into hell have shaped their views of our current conflict. The event is free, and half of the proceeds from donations and DVD sales goes directly to the Veterans Assistance Fund.
Tomorrow, the distinguished Austin hipster will have to choose between two Alamo Draft presentations at different locations. The first is The Godfather Food and Wine Feast, playing at the new, and kick ass, Alamo Drafthouse South (Lamar) location. The showing is $50, but includes a five course meal, each with an accompanying Coppola wine! Make sure you
purchase your ticket soon, as seating is limited.
The second is The Secret of NIMH along with Robert Sullivan, author of Rats: Observations on the History and Habitat of the City's Most Unwanted Inhabitants, who will in attendance to sign his book. Admission is free with the purchase of Robert's written account of this unique urban foray.
Both Movies start at 7PM, and should be more than enough to stave off the horrible plight of boredom this city falls under.
