Kerrville Folk Festival Student Contest

kerrville.jpg Tonight, in the Cactus Cafe, student songwriters will compete for a chance to play at this years Kerrville Folk Festival. Ten performers will get the chance to wow the official judges, who, in the past have included people like Sarah Hickman.

The showcase will be hosted by UT alumni, The Hudsons, who are as nice to look at as they are to listen to. So if you enjoy listening to folk tunes, then you should go. As a bonus, the Cactus Cafe is one of the few places on campus that you can relax with a beer in hand. The rundown:

What: Kerrville Folk Festival
When: Wednesday night 8pm-10pm
Cost: Free!

This is the fifth year that the Music and Entertainment Committe has given the chance to student songwriters to showcase their talent. We say "bravo!" to the MEC for being cool like that.

Now, I was never into folk music. I'd worked some bills with some folkies. You know: Put him in a cell with a long hose on him, Put him in a cell with a long hose on him. And I used to say, "If he's got a long enough hose, he's gonna have a lot of friends in the shower room!" Uh, folk audiences hated that joke.

    Whaaa happened?
