Even More Music Recommendations

For those about to rock, the Austinist has a few selections to piss off your neighbors.

Mindless Self-Indulgence - You'l Rebel to Anything

Mindless Self-Indulgence combine industrial groove with spastic metal outbursts.

Mudvayne - Lost and Found

Mudvayne finally drops the goofy make-up and alien masks to reveal that they may be capable of making good music without all the gimmicks.

Slipknot - Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses) Special Edition

Roadrunner loves to issue re-releases and special editions months after the initial pressing. They continue this ridiculous trend by re-releasing Slipknot’s latest opus with two new songs, some remixes, and some live tracks.

Willie Nelson - Songs for Tsunami Relief: Austin to South Asia

Who’s gonna argue that the red-headed stranger ain’t rock enough to be on this list? Willie is in good company alongside the likes of Austin faves Spoon and Alejandro Escovedo on this live recording of the benefit that was held earlier this year.

And the Austinist "This one goes to eleven" pick of the week is:

Isis - Oceanic: Remixes/Reinterpretations

By understanding that fast and loud aren’t the only ways to play heavy, Isis keep the Sabbath dream alive. A metal band who can actually play their instruments is a rarity, but finding all the songs on this CD on their original vinyl formats is even rarer. Oceanic: Remixes/Reinterpretations combine several vinyl releases, some of which were never before released in America.

Not everyone in Austin likes the same sort of music. There's a surprisingly large number of metal bands, mid-90's style alt rock, and a ton of screamy whatever-it's-called that play all the time at clubs like Red Eyed Fly and 710.
