Big kudos and much thanks to the writers for a great article! It was, indeed, an awesome night!

To try to answer the question about rivalry:

The Texas Rollergirls used to be what is now the txrd. league(banked track.) A rift somehow ensued within the league and most of the girls from the original league left txrd. The skaters that left were plentiful and they formed their own league, creating new names for their teams as well as their new league (flat track.) They proudly called themselves Texas Rollergirls. I think this occurred in 2002 or 2003. The skaters who remained in the original league rebuilt as well and for a while still called themselves by their original league name.....BUT THEN......

When the skaters who left formed their league, they named themselves Texas Rollergirls, as previously mentioned. (The original league was named BGBW or BGGW or something like that.) Then, after the original league rebuilt(the number of authentic, original skaters were few) changed their name to Lonestar Rollergirls. And the drama ensued. There are far more details to the story than I know. Perhaps someday, the gory truths will come out.

One thing I can say is I have experienced first hand interactions with both leagues. The majority of the girls on the Lonestar league are very proud, condescending women. You could feel that just by talking to them. The Texas Rollergirl league is completely the opposite. The majority here are very friendly, down to earth folks. I think they're all hippie souls. lol You can feel appreciation just by talking to them. There's a huge difference. Try both, if you want. I know where you'll end up wanting to be. See you at Playland! ;o)

Sincerely,
A brand new lifetime fan

Yeah, I read an article about them in a magazine not too long ago. Isn't there a rivalry between the Texas Rollergirls and the Lonestar Rollergirls?

the Lonestar Rollergirl bouts are much more entertaining. (John Popper was at their bout a few weeks ago) They skate on a banked track just like the '70's.

You should check them out.
