Hide the children and the booze . . . Fantomas are invading the city!
Ever noticed how 96.8% percent of songs you hear on the radio all sound alike? It's like there's one guy sitting around writing "hits" for whoever is popular at the moment. Cookie-cutter songs from one-hit wonders. The Austinist demands to know where have all the real musicians gone? Enter avant-rock supergroup Fantomas.
At the forefront of this sonic attack force is Mike Patton, he of Faith No More/Mr. Bungle/Loveage fame. Surrounded by an amazing supporting cast consisting of Trevor Dunn (Mr. Bungle/Trevor Dunn's Convulsion Trio), Buzz Osbourne (Melvins), and Dave Lombardo (Slayer/Grip, Inc./Drums of Death), Fantomas create albums, not singles. Their catalog consists of albums devoted to science-fiction cinema (self-titled debut), cult movie soundtracks (The Director's Cut), the beautiful experience that is surgery (Delirium Cordia) and available Tuesday, April 5th, the month of April (Suspended Animation).
Fantomas consistently delivers music that challenges the listener. See for yourself when their legendary live show explodes tonight, April 4th at Emo's. Tickets are available and priced at $17.50. The Austinist recommends showing up when the doors open at 8 to check out the opening bands. Trevor Dunn's Convulsion Trio plays first followed by The Locust ... the jury's still out if these guys are fucking hacks or musical geniuses. Make your own decision.
